Mari has 30 years of child protection experience. Most of her career has been spent in the United Kingdom, having worked in a number of roles including a child protection worker, supervisor, child protection conference chair, as well as a self employed Guardian Ad Litem. She was introduced to Signs of Safety in 2007 during her time in Richmondshire, North Yorkshire as a Deputy Service Manager. Mari was able to further continue her Signs of Safety journey when she moved to Ontario, Canada in 2009 and where she was employed by Family and Children’s Services of Guelph and Wellington County and was an agency lead in their Signs of Safety Implementation.
In 2015 Mari returned to the UK and understands first hand the subtle nuances between operating in different jurisdictions and this provides her with a unique perspective in Signs of Safety practice and implementation.
Mari prides herself on her understanding of the complexities of child protection work as well as the need for discipline and structure to provide a clear “trajectory” in cases. She is a keen advocate for the use of mapping cases in supervision in order to equip workers with the clarity of thinking required to produce good outcomes for children and families. Mari is also interested in how the Signs of Framework can be used in building strong teams where learning and inquiry are promoted.
