Licensed Signs of Safety Trainer & Consultant 🟠🔵
Bev Carter is a qualified Social Worker with 20 years experience of working within statutory Child and Family teams. Bev’s career has been involved in child protection in four different Local Authority areas in Wales.
Bev has spent the past seven years developing and delivering child protection – safeguarding/training workshops to both social work staff and professionals from the multi-agency group. For the past five years Bev’s been involved in Signs of Safety Training.
Bev’s last role in the City and County of Swansea was Service Manager with a particular focus on staff and service development. Bev spent three years leading work to drive forward a whole service implementation of the Signs of Safety. Swansea were the first Local Authority in Wales to adopt this approach. The work achieved by Swansea was recognised by the Care Council for Wales in 2015 and they won a social work accolade for leadership to achieve confident, competent and professional workers. The judges were impressed that there was much greater satisfaction from families and staff, with more children understanding why they were looked after, and that learning was being shared across partner agencies.
At the end of 2014 Bev became a licensed Signs of Safety Trainer & Consultant and by December 2016 Bev has spent her time with 14 local authorities. This has widened her experience of how the Signs of Safety approach helps social work/social care practice with children and families (and communities).
Having seen how helpful the approach can be Bev has got even more interested and committed into helping organisations support their workers be the best they can be so this will transfer in their contact with children and families.
Bev is also observing from training and consultancy how the Signs of Safety approach is helping workers from adult services in a Welsh Local Authority.
Bev is looking forward to next years’ learning experiences and hoping that children, families, communities, workers and helping services work together to do what’s best for everyone.
