Licensed Signs of Safety Trainer 🔵
Catherine qualified as a social worker in 1982 and worked in children’s services in Northern Ireland as a social worker in child protection, looked after children and family placement teams. Catherine joined the Northern Ireland Guardian ad Litem Agency when it was inaugurated in 1996 and worked as a children’s guardian for 11 years. An experienced trainer, Catherine worked for the British Association for Adoption and Fostering as trainer and consultant for Northern Ireland from 2007 until 2014. Catherine first became interested in Signs of Safety in 2010 and after attending a five-day training with Andrew Turnell and Viv Hogg in England in 2013, was inspired to continue her learning where the model was first conceived. Catherine travelled to Western Australia in 2015 where she spent 18 months working as the sole Child Protection worker in a remote aboriginal community in the vast Goldfields District. Since her return to Ireland, Catherine has been part of the implementation team with Tusla Child and Family Agency, delivering training to social work staff and consulting on selected learning cases. Catherine is also employed by Elia as the Knowledge Bank Resource Co-ordinator.
